We passed a number of hippos wallowing in shallow pools. I thought on day 3, I would never get a shot of 'the gaping mouth', showing all those teeth. Most of the time, all that was visiable, was the hippos back, and the top of their heads, and noses. Now and again there was a 'spitting' of water, then they disapear below for a short time, resurfacing to the same position.
It was coming to the end of the day, the sun was low in the sky, its golden light spilling over the horizon, when our guide said we need to be making our back, I asked about the hippos, he said they should be near bridge as we drove back. I was hoping for a brilliant shot, in perfect light, but what I got was...... backs and bums...
As the days went on, I thought I wouldn't get the capture I had in my head, and almost gave up the ghost. The guide said I shouldn't give up, adding he thought I would get the shot I wanted as he knew a place...... hmm.... I should have had more faith....
